Yep, I agree with you, though it's going to be a long wait for his first season.
He's been brilliant in loads of TV and films, but I remember that he completely stole Torchwood S3--okay, one might argue "not difficult" but still, he was wonderful in that.
Anyway, hooray! A Doctor who's older than me (just). I never thought I'd type those words again.
Is there an autumn season with Matt Smith - apart from the 50th anniversary episode on 23rd November? I've lost track.
Presumably if Capaldi takes over during the Christmas episode his first season will begin Esaster 2014. I guess they have to announce it so far in advance because once they start shooting for Christmas and spring the cat will be out of the bag.
I would still prefer them to show one full season rather than two halves.
No Autumn season this year, which is weird considering it's the 50th anniversary. In fact PC won't debut properly (excl. Xmas ep) until Autumn 2014! A very long wait ...
They must be putting all their eggsin the anniversary basket.
Was it a short season in Spring? I seem to recall it was. They do this every so often, don't they... like the year which only had four specials and no proper season.

But I'm surprised they're hanging on until autumn to debut Peter Capaldi. That is a long wait.
I have to admit that I'd stopped watching Doctor Who. a few seasons ago. I got fed up of too many plots involving nubile companions, unrequited love and/or love magically defeating the Big Evil. Perhaps with an older doctor we'll get back to the fun stuff of chases and fighting scary aliens? :)
I stuck with it through Matt Smith and now I'm glad I did. There were some great Who moments (mostly involving River Song) and even though there were a few disappointing episodes it was mostly excellent.
