Matt Smith.

My first reaction is that he's way too young. (Age 26) I hope I'm wrong.

He doesn't take over straight away, so he'll be a lot nearer David Tennant's age (the age he was when DT took over I mean). I'm pleased they didn't go for a big name, and I hope we get a more thoughtful doctor but I shall reserve judgement, I think. Am also hoping we don't get another London accent but maybe that's just my prejudices showing.

Tennant was 34 when he got the role - 35 when it began. That's a big difference from 26/27. Eight years makes a lot of difference at that age.

But I was leery about Tennant at first (and I'm still in two minds as to whether I liked Eccleston better) however I was proved utterly wrong abiut Tennant being too young and pretty.

As to whether Ecclestone or Tennant is the better Doctor, I don't think I could ever really decide because they're not competing on a level playing field. Eccleston didn't get three/four seasons and all the subsequent character development and romance with Rose to show what he might have done with the role. He did a lot with his one season, though, including the beginnings of his attraction to Rose. I liked Eccleston's war-damaged Doctor a lot and The Empty Child remains my favourite (double) episode.

Of course that also introduces Captain Jack...

Dadgaderie says, ooh, that is young considering the first Dr. Who was about 80...

He's VERY pretty, though. Can he act? I've never seen him before.

You have seen him before. He played Jim in Ruby in the Smoke and Shadow in the North - the televised Philip Pullman stories with Billie Piper as Sally Lockheart. I think you watched them at our place - the first one at least. I don't know that he's pretty. He's got a kind of weird shaped face with an enormous square jaw. Not being too pretty might be his saving grace.

Oh, of course! I thought he looked vaguely familiar but then thought I must be wrong. Yes, we saw Ruby in the Smoke, etc. at your house. I think this latest photo must be very flattering. He does have an odd face but I really like odd faces so...

I think the odd face might be A Good Thing.

I agree! A "too pretty" model face would be kinda weird on someone like the Dr. Unless it was done just right and that would be dang hard...
