This is a short, fun read by indie author Mark Hayden. This is the intro to what looks like a long (ongoing) series featuring Ex RAF helicopter pilot Conrad Clarke who is introduced to magick (yes that's magick with a K) by the Allfather or Odin or whatever you want to call him. Before joining the King's Watch Conrad has to find his way to the dwarves who reside beneath the bank of England and then complete a task - find a missing witch. Along the way he begins to learn a bit about magick including his own. This is a world of gods, mages, witches, dwarves and one very aggressive giant mole. He acquires a helper (Vicky) along the way who knows a lot more about magic than he does, but seems reluctant to explain things.

This is a fast paced adventure, narrated by Conrad, whose voice is more than a little sarky. There's a strain of black humour running through it. I'm not sure how I came across it, except that Amazon said it was for lovers of the Dresden Files, Rivers of London, and the Iron Druid series. Tick to those three.

There's one place where something happens which doesn't make sense in the context of the story and I wonder, since this is indie publisher, who did the editing. Blip notwithstanding, this was an enjoyable read.
